Australia passport and visa photo requirements
Australia accepts a slightly flexible frame (35–40 mm wide by 45–50 mm high) but is strict about the head size and about the endorsement on the back of the print, which a guarantor must sign.

The Australian Passport Office accepts a range of sizes — 35×45 mm sits inside its 35–40 × 45–50 mm window.
What the photo must show
- Photo age. Taken within the last 6 months.
- Expression. Neutral expression, mouth closed, eyes open and clearly visible.
- Glasses. Not allowed — remove them. Dark or tinted lenses are never accepted.
- Headwear. Only for religious or medical reasons, and the face must be visible from the hairline to the chin.
- Uniform. Not accepted, including camouflage patterns and work uniforms.
- Endorsement. The back of one photo must carry the words “This is a true photo of [your full name]” signed in black pen by a guarantor.

Common reasons photos get rejected
- A head that falls outside 32–36 mm from chin to crown.
- Glasses, even with clear lenses.
- A shadow behind the head or a dark background.
- A photo without the guarantor endorsement on the back.
- A selfie or a cropped group photo.
