Malaysia passport and visa photo requirements
Malaysia uses a 35×50 mm photo, taller than the European 35×45 mm. Background colour is the detail to watch: Malaysian passport photos historically required a blue background, and the requirement has been revised more than once, so check Immigration Malaysia’s current guidance before printing.

What the photo must show
- Photo age. Taken within the last 6 months.
- Background. Plain, light and evenly lit — confirm the current required colour with Immigration Malaysia.
- Expression. Neutral expression, mouth closed, eyes open.
- Glasses. Do not wear glasses; reflection and tinted lenses are refused.
- Headwear. Only for religious or medical reasons, and the face must remain visible.
- Paper. Matte print, with no crease and no staple holes.
Common reasons photos get rejected
- A photo printed on glossy paper that reflects light.
- A background that does not match the colour currently required.
- A photo of a photo, or one with a visible screen border.
- A photo where the head is tilted or off-centre.
