Indonesia passport and visa photo requirements
Indonesia is one of the few countries that still asks for a red background on passport photos. Visa applications use the same 4×6 cm size but on a white background, so keep both versions if you are applying for several documents.

Switch the background colour in your photo editor before cropping — the tool cannot change the background for you.
What the photo must show
- Photo age. Taken within the last 6 months.
- Background colour. Red for the passport, white for most visa applications.
- Expression. Neutral expression, mouth closed, no smiling.
- Glasses. Not allowed. Remove them, including tinted lenses.
- Headwear. Only for religious reasons, and the face must be fully visible.
- Clothing. Dark, plain clothing so the shoulders separate from the background.
Common reasons photos get rejected
- A white-background photo sent with a passport application that asks for red.
- A background with a gradient or a visible shadow behind the head.
- A photo with a uniform, including scouting or school uniforms.
- A photo that has been stretched or squashed out of proportion.
